A boat is anchored at sea. There is a rope ladder hanging from the side of the boat. The rungs on the ladder are 30cm apart. The sea is rising at 45cm per hour. After a period of 6 hours, how much of the rope ladder will remain above the water, assuming that 3 metres of the rope ladder was above the water the moment that the tide began to rise?

BoatLadder.jpg

3 metres of the ladder rope will always be above water. This is due to the boat being afloat meaning that the water level relative to the boat will always be the same.
